This was the second release on Redroom, and was distributed by World Serpent. It should really have been a Sieben release, by rights. I hadn’t really established the differentiation back then; Sieben for my song releases, and Matt Howden for my instrumental. This came out in late 2000.

For all its weak production, fuzzy vocals and indistinct rhythms, I’m still fond of this album. It has an energy and anger to it, one that I’ve found it hard to recapture when re-working some of the songs from this album, even when I had better technology and better techniques at my fingertips. ‘Anubis’ still rocks! Some of the string lines are quirky and nicely nasty. Nice bass and vocal contributions by Jane Howden. As with ‘The Line and the Hook’, there are some nice songs and passages that come through, despite the poor equipment and knowledge of production hanging like a cloud over the album ;-)

This album has sold out, but is available for digital download via iTunes. I doubt I’ll ever re-release it in solid form…

Reviews

“…a very good album with a unified sound… will fit into the record collections of both the more folk orientated and those who like an electronic approach.”

Rik, Fluxeuropa webzine

“Don’t even think of avoiding this release. It’s inspired, sincere and, in the bottom line, it's something new to this tired, worn-out scene.”

Alex X, January 2001

“The more often one hears the album, pieces with an earworm-like quality become crystallised against the dark atmosphere of the whole; the title track is particularly catchy. Not an easy CD, but all the more rewarding for it.” (translated from the German)

Zillo

“More than a simple album, a conceptual work which can not be superficially conceived.”
